In my trailer the characters will not be speaking and there will be no diagetic sound yet there will be non-diagetic sound. There will be the voice of a french woman over the top of the music narrating to film, she will be speaking in french with subtitles in English. With the subtitles it makes the audience feel a part of something they never previously understood and gives them a sense of satisfaction.
From the makers of 'fly away' and 'Jean et Paul' we give you...
'Par les createurs de s'envoler' et 'Jean et Paul' nous vous donnon...'
This line will be said in French with the subtitle of English. The voice over will be said in a playful and seductive manor.
When constructing my storyline and script I tried to construct my own interpretation on French New Wave.
I have incorporated jump cuts and long shots, yet I still will have the intimate close ups so the audience will feel the relationship the characters have.
The characters will not be saying anything, I will let the narrator tell the story with short, isolated words which will be very static, cosy and unambiguous. There will be 'cool jazz' background music however there will be pauses where the characters get close to show intimacy and the effect of 'cutting tension with a knife'.
In order to effectively attract my audience I need to capture the rawness and he individuality of French New Wave. I need to include a personal artistic expression and should bear a stamp on personal authorship which is what is needed to properly connect with an audience.
Many of the French New Wave films include, briefly, jump-cuts, voiceovers, location filming, rapid editing, direct sound, stripped down plots and mobile camera work. Conclusively I am planning to use all of these. However, I have come across a problem with location filming; because I am setting it in the 60's around me there will be modern mise-en-scene. Therefore I must be very careful were I film as to not include anything modern in the background.
